Yamaha Supercross is a motocross racing game officially licensed by the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer. The player can choose from six different Yamaha motorcycles and can ride them in nine different locations with a total of eighteen races. As in other games of this genre, it's not just about reaching the finish line first, but also doing various tricks and stunts.
There are four different game modes: Tournament, Arcade, Practice, and Challenge. In the tournament, the goal is to be crowned king of Yamaha Supercross and for this the player must progress through four championship classes. As you progress, opponents become more adept and bikes become more powerful and less forgiving. The arcade mode features single races where the player can race on any track that has been unlocked. In practice mode, the player races against a ghost racer who represents a replay of the last lap. The challenge mode is all about stunts and in order to progress the player needs to complete a certain number of stunts.
The game also features a multiplayer mode where two players can compete against each other locally in an arcade mode race.
