Yakuza (龍が如く, Ryū ga Gotoku?, lit. "Like a dragon") is a video game developed by Amusement Vision and published by Sega, released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2 console.
Produced by Toshihiro Nagoshi, directed by Ryuta Ueda and scripted by writer Hase Seishū, Yakuza is an action-adventure game set in the world of the Japanese mafia. It is based on the exploration of a popular district of Tokyo (inspired by the Kabukichō district) and on street fights. Backed by a large budget, the game was a critical and commercial success, particularly in Japan. It followed with five new episodes, a prequel, five spin-offs, and a film adaptation, directed by Takashi Miike.
A remake titled Yakuza Kiwami, developed by Ryu ga Gotoku Studio was released for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in 2016 in Japan, in 2017 in the rest of the world on the latter, then in 2019 on Microsoft Windows.
