XGIII: Extreme G Racing is a futuristic racing game. Six teams compete to win a racing championship, with the player taking control of one of the two racers available on each team. The game retains the action elements of previous titles: as before, opponents will attempt to sabotage the race, and the player-controlled character can respond to this with their own arsenal of weapons.
Unlike previous versions, weapons cannot be collected on the road: the player must buy them with money earned after a successful run. All weapons now deplete the player's weapon bar with each shot. Another change is the absence of the "nitro" boosts used in previous entries; they were replaced with a turbo system, where using the boost drains energy from the player character's shields.
