WWF Super WrestleMania is a wrestling game that uses World Wrestling Federation (WWF) rules and wrestlers. The game introduces a characteristic "tug of war" style of play, which involves two wrestlers battling each other until one of them has the upper hand. The player must repeatedly press a button to perform this move. All wrestlers share the same set of typical WWF moves such as scoop kicks, suplexes, hip throws, dropkicks, clotheslines, and elbow drops. The Genesis version (MegaDrive) adds unique signature moves to each character.

The game modes are Head-to-Head, Tag Team, and Survivor Series (four-on-four) matches. The Genesis version also features a WWF Championship mode, which allows the player to select a wrestler and slowly progress by defeating other wrestlers in a tournament consisting of one-on-one matches.
