The sequel to Worms: Open Warfare features more maps, weapons, game modes, and options than its predecessor. Once again, each player controls a team of small worms equipped with unorthodox but powerful weapons to destroy opposing teams on fully destructible maps.
It is possible to play solo in Campaign mode, play through various missions linked by a storyline with animated sequences, take on various challenges in Puzzle mode, or face friends and enemies in multiplayer with up to four teams, with offline, wireless and new online support, as well as various schemes and new game modes like Forts and Race.
Players can also keep their teams distinguished by customizing everything from verse names and sound banks to victory dances and the team flag, as well as creating custom flags with the Flag Editor. It's also possible to customize the battlefield with new map types—Pirates, WW-I, WW-II, Cold War, Gulf War, and Future War—as well as a map editor. There are more weapons and utilities to choose from, such as the new Electromagnet, Boomerang, Bunker Buster, Sentry Gun, or simply the return of classics like the Holy Hand Grenade, Concrete Donkey, Super Sheep, and more.
Additionally, the PSP version features an online lobby with rankings and clans, a Time Attack mode, a zoomable map, downloadable content, and hats, while the DS version features a Lab mode (minigames that use the touchscreen/microphone), a stylus-based interface, and a scrolling minimap.
