World of Outlaws: Sprint Car Racing 2002 is a game that focuses on the motorsport niche of sprint car racing. The game is mostly a real-life racing simulation, with a career mode and a number of customization options.
The game has a number of different modes to choose from. The most basic of these are the time trial and single race options, both of which are self-explanatory. There's also an arcade championship mode that lets you jump in and start as part of a professional racing team, with your own vehicle and free maintenance. The career mode is the most in-depth of all the options, as it puts you in the shoes of a budding sprint car driver. You will start with just enough money to buy a basic car and participate in a local event. The goal is to win the event, or at least place high enough to start building your reputation as a racer. One of the keys to success is impressing sponsors, who will offer you contracts if you do well enough. At first, because you are low on funds, you will have to wait for events to unfold at your local track. As your wealth and reputation grow, you will be able to go to bigger events with bigger prizes and more exposure.
Each event consists of a battery of races and a somewhat complicated progression and elimination process that you will have to go through before you win the prize. At the start of each championship or career race, you will have the opportunity to do a few practice laps to warm up. Once you have a feel for the track, you can move on to the qualifying race.
