Uncharted Waters (originally released as Daikoukai Jidai, "Great Age of Sailing") is a Japanese video game series produced by Koei under its "Rekoeition" brand.
It is a series of simulation and role-playing video games dealing with sailing and trading, with an Age of Discovery theme. In the games, the player assumes the role of a captain (or commodore in some translations) and manages a sea fleet to participate in trading, racing, treasure hunting, exploration, and piracy. Even though the series is largely open-ended, there is still a loose plot that requires the player to follow certain paths, and straying from these paths can slow story progression.
In East Asia, the series is very cult, but it hasn't received much recognition outside the region. However, it has been compared to the previous Sid Meier's Pirates! in gameplay and theme.
