Tony Hawk's American Sk8land is the portable equivalent of Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. As always, the player skates around several parks (loosely based on American Wasteland levels) and performs a variety of stunts. These are executed by combining the environment with certain button combinations.
During the main story mode, the player creates a new skater who ends up with a group of skaters who want to revive a legendary skate park named SK8Land. In practice, the player walks around the park, talks to people, and is given challenges to complete; usually in the form of chained cascades. Classic mode lets you take control of real skaters and roam the parks freely. In this mode, the goal is to accumulate as many points as possible by performing spectacular stunts in a limited time. In addition, there are different multiplayer modes, unchanged from the predecessors, for the link cable and the hot seat.
