In 2007, an unidentified group of terrorists attacked a number of high-profile targets, starting with the G8 summit in Switzerland and continuing with a Venezuelan oil refinery in the Caribbean. Their demands are obviously aimed at disrupting the oil trade between the United States and Venezuela. Join the veteran international counter-terrorist unit Team Rainbow, who must stop the terrorists and find out who is behind the attacks.
Rainbow Six 3 is an entry in the long-running series designed especially for consoles. It removes the heavy strategy and planning elements the series was known for on PC and offers a more action-focused first-person experience. The game features 14 single-player levels (15 in the PS2 and GameCube versions). In each, the player controls Domingo 'Ding' Chavez, who leads a team of three other Rainbow agents. The objectives of each mission include eliminating terrorists, defusing bombs and protecting hostages. Ding's teammates will act alone to support the mission, but they can also receive specific orders via a context menu: hold position, advance, clear a room or defuse a bomb. It is also possible to give pending orders which are only executed once a special signal is given. The Xbox version offers voice recognition: team orders can be given via a headset.
