Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 is a simulation of the sport of golf. Compared to version 08, the game lacks several game modes, including online multiplayer. On the left are the usual PGA Tour career mode and the EA Sports Cup. The latter consists of three-hole short courses.
By successfully completing tournaments and achievements, the player receives experience and skill points that are used to improve the character's abilities. The player can choose between two-click and True Swing controls: in the former, the player must click two or three times at the correct timing to set the hitting conditions, and in the latter, the player simulates the hitting motion with the analog stick. There are a total of 27 licensed players and 20 courses.
