The Wii and PS3 reworkings of the original The Godfather: The Game, Blackhand Edition and The Don's Edition respectively, were developed side by side and improve upon the original game.
It has a reworked crew system, where members will accompany the player even after loading a game (which had another crew hired). During missions, a 4-man squad can be called up, depending on a gauge that needs to be recharged.
Alongside the role of Enforcer in the original game, these versions feature an additional path as an Operator, relying primarily on blackmailing the FBI, cops, or families, presented as a mini-game. As the Enforces use brute force to ultimately destroy the other families, the Operator must collect dirt on them. This can be used while talking to the police chiefs of the five boroughs to increase the bribe meter to maximum, eventually allowing the player to take control of the police in the area, fighting with your family members . Police officers can also arrest other characters. Operator special abilities include increased health and regen, reduced price on FBI and Police corruption, increased crew damage and health, call strike team twice as much often and instant stealth kills by planting car bombs.
Along with the regular 20 missions, these editions include 10 new ones, including a new rival family, rooftop battles, new favors, and different forms of blackmail and bribery.
Motion-based controls are supported via SIXAXIS (PS3) and more widely with the Nunchuk and Wiimote (Wii) during battle and for execution moves such as choke, headbutt, throw , swing bats, pushes and molotov cocktails.
The PS3 edition includes 2 locales not included in other versions: a freighter and a rail yard with additional missions.
