Speed Racer is based on the Wachowski Brothers film of the same name, itself based on a 1960s Japanese animated series. The main storyline is based around winning the World Racing League Cup. This video game adaptation focuses on the racing aspect of the film. Over 15 characters from the movie are represented as playable drivers in the game, and vehicles from the movie can be selected from the in-game menu.
Race tracks feature loops, jumps, corkscrews, and plenty of twists. They all have a high-tech look with bright colors. Up to six players are supported via the wireless connection. Drivers can engage in combat during races using "car-fu" maneuvers such as "tail toss", "boost bash", "smack down", "round house", and "torpedo", among others.
