Spartan: Total Warrior is an action-RPG video game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega on October 7, 2005 for PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox. The game is a spin-off from the Total War series of strategy video games. Unlike its predecessors, the game indeed offers a hack 'n' slash type game system, the player embodying a Spartan warrior guided by the god of war Ares and fighting with his allies of ancient Greece against the invasion of Roman Empire. It also stands out from the rest of the series by offering a fictional scenario, mixing Greek and Roman mythology, where its predecessors took place in a realistic historical frame. It is finally the only opus in the series to have been published on console rather than on computer.
