Uchū Senkan Yamato is an adaptation of the anime series of the same name, also known as Space Battleship Yamato and Star Blazers. It adapts the story of the original 1974 television series: in 2199, Earth is besieged by aliens from Gamila. The planet's surface has become uninhabitable due to the bombardment of radioactive meteorites, so the surviving humans live underground. Hope arrives with a message from the planet Iscandar. If humans could somehow get to Iscandar, they could acquire a device capable of cleansing the planet of radioactive damage. Thus, from the hull of the World War II Japanese battleship Yamato, a powerful new spacecraft is built, capable of passing through the Gamilan blockade and reaching Iscandar. But time is running out: within a year, the accumulated radiation will have killed everyone on Earth.
