Sonic Unleashed is a 2008 platform video game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The story follows Sonic as he tries to restore the world after his nemesis, Doctor Eggman, smashes it with a powerful laser to free the ancient evil Dark Gaia, while facing having become a " Werehog", a werewolf-like transformation, which he gains after coming into contact with the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds when attempting to awaken Dark Gaia. The gameplay features two distinct styles, each played during the day or at night. Daytime scenes incorporate Sonic's traditional platforming and trademark speed, with a combination of behind-the-back third-person viewpoints and side-scrolling 2D platforming; the gameplay switches seamlessly between these two viewpoints.
