Rugby 15 is a rugby game with licenses for clubs in Top 14, Pro D2, Aviva Premiership and Pro12 competitions. Each team also has its own in-game stadium. Official statistics for the 2014-2015 season as well as real players and jerseys are present. For the developer, this is the first rugby game since Rugby World Cup 2011 and the title is a throwback to when they developed rugby games for Electronic Arts, with Rugby 08 as their latest title. For the sport in general, this is the first licensed rugby match since the 2013 Rugby Challenge 2 title.
The game offers individual matches or in one of the licensed competitions, with support for custom matches and specific rules. Up to four players can participate in a local match, but there is no support for online multiplayer. There is no career mode or team and player customization options. Game rules are taught via static information screens and in-game hints as there is no tutorial. Each individual player can be controlled during matches and there are multiple difficulty options. In-game commentary is provided by Stuart Barnes and Miles Harrison.
Rather than a simulation, the game features an arcade approach and players can perform moves such as sidesteps, transfers, pop passes, shoulder charges, grubber kicks, drops goal and tackles. More complex moves such as cross passes, high and low passes and behind the back passes are also supported. Teams can be managed during or before and after matches with various stats available. Team formation can also be changed quickly.
