Open Tee brings the Hot Shots Golf series to the PSP with Wi-Fi multiplayer capability. This game, like the rest of the series, features realistic golf courses, with your characters being more of the animated type than their real life counterparts.
There are several modes available in single-player mode that allow you to earn items for your character to wear, accessories to improve your golf game, new clubs and golf balls, and new playable characters. Unique game modes include stroke play where you can play a free round of golf alone, three different challenge modes (stroke - play against nineteen computer characters in a tournament, match - a one-on-one match head against a computer character with the first player to advance through three holes winning automatically unlocking items for your character and VS - play against a computer character like in the match game and instead of getting items you unlock the character you are playing against to be a playable character). There is also a practice mode available to practice a single hole or a course with the ability to set the conditions you want to practice in such as wind direction, weather, etc. By playing in single player mode, you will also have the opportunity to increase your rank by winning tournaments. As you rank up, you'll unlock new courses and caddies.
Multi-player mode allows up to 8 people to connect and play match play - one on one from 3 to 18 holes, tournament - a coup style game with up to 8 players over 9 to 18 holes and Putting Challenge - one on one game where you compete for putting points using only a putter on a putting green with multiple holes and the goal being to putt your ball down in a single putt, the further the hole the more points you get putting points. Putting Challenge is also available in single player mode. Special rule can be applied in multiplayer mode, like 2 points added to sand traps, no backspin, XL Cup (a giant cup is used), Crazy Gauge (the slider on the power gauge to hit the ball jumps ) etc. You can taunt your opponent in turn by pressing the direction buttons or one of the other buttons. Taunts differ from character to character.
Selecting Data from the main menu will display your solo golf records, history (your achievements so far - medals, etc.) and shot videos to record for later viewing. Selecting options from the main menu allows for more gameplay tweaks, such as camera angles, easy mode, and playback of movies you've recorded.
