Puzzle Chronicles is a casual game that combines object-matching puzzles with RPG elements, including character progression and a fantasy story in the vein of previous Infinity Puzzle Quest titles: Challenge of the Warlords and Puzzle Kingdoms.
The puzzle game is played on a board with a vertical dividing line in the middle. The goal is to push back the line of separation to diminish the opponent's territory until it is no longer possible to move. This is done by matching groups of three gemstones in similar colors along the dividing line. These groups fall horizontally on the board. Pushing back the dividing line is done by destroying rage gems. There are also special abilities and a sidekick known as the Warbeast that attacks the enemy when enough gems of a certain color have been knocked out.
Dropping gems also allows the player to collect mana, power spells, and items which are then used to attack the opponent and reduce their space on the board. Along with the main puzzle game, there are five other mini-games ranging from leveling up the Warbeast companion to crafting new items, while navigating a number of different maps and completing simple quests.
