Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 follows the football franchise's annual installments and comes with up-to-date player transfers for the 2009/2010 season. The game features many new moves and players move more slowly and realistically. Even a mediocre player can now land a lucky shot and hit the net from 40 yards away. Most of the graphical improvements are in player face and shadow detail. Although there are still five game levels, this time the computer AI acts differently than before and opens up new ways to play the game.
There are game modes present in the previous titles of the franchise, such as Exhibition or Master League, but also new modes like the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. The Become a Legend mode introduced in PES 2009 is also available. Aside from the graphics, details have been put into tactics and strategy where players can be positioned more precisely depending on their skill. A brand new feature is the card system, tied to certain players' unique abilities. This gives that player an advantage over his opponent. In previous titles, some high-level players could perform stunning moves without player control. With the map system in PES 2010, direct control over this becomes available.
The Master League mode is more detailed and includes sponsors, youth teams and real currencies (including Euro, British Pound, US Dollar or Japanese Yen). The money can also be used to pay a scout who takes care of negotiations, physicals, coach and other staff. The Premier League, La Liga Española, Italian League, Eredivisie and others are still included, as well as the World Cup, Konami Cup and others, with widely updated national teams and league teams .
