Breaking the conventions of previous Pokémon games, you play as a human who has suddenly transformed into a Pokémon, but before you can figure out this startling revelation, a Butterfree needs help! Her baby Caterpie has fallen into a dungeon and can't get out!
You and the other Pokemon you befriend along the way must brave randomly created dungeons to help other Pokemon that need rescuing or just need something delivered.
Unlike previous Pokémon games, battles take place on the map (although they're still turn-based), and while you can only directly control the Pokémon that represent you in-game, you can give your companions vague combat orders, such as using more special attacks or keeping items.
