Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version, commonly referred to as Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, are the two editions of the first Japanese role-playing video game in the Pokémon series developed by Game Freak under the direction of Satoshi Tajiri. They were originally published by Nintendo on the Game Boy portable console in Japan in 1996 under the name Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green (Poketto Monsutā Aka Midori?), then in North America and Australia in 1998 and in Europe in 1999.
