Based on the 1960s film series starring legendary actors such as Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowell, the player takes control of a deep space astronaut named Ulysses who crash-lands on Earth after 200 years in space and awakens to discover that apes have become the dominant species and nearly wiped out the human race. Joining a group of survivors, the player must fight their way to the heart of the Ape Empire and stop General Ursus, who is planning a final attack on humanity.
The gameplay is a side-scrolling action game, similar to Prince of Persia, allowing the player to avoid various traps and pitfalls by jumping and climbing. They must also avoid various enemies, including armed monkeys who will try to stop the player at all costs, but the player has their own weapons. The player will start with a knife and eventually upgrade to a pistol and a shotgun.
There are 13 levels in total, with the story told through set scenes modeled after the movies. There is also a password feature that players can retrieve and play at their leisure.
