Picross 3D is a pseudo-sequel to Picross DS. As in the original game, the player's goal is to discover the hidden image using the numerical clues as a guide. Unlike Picross DS, where the puzzles were flat, in this game, each puzzle is enclosed in a cube of varying size and shape. By cutting and rotating the cube, the player can reveal the hidden image.
The game features approximately 350 puzzles, covering a variety of different themes. Each puzzle is grouped into a specific theme, such as beach, sports, or fire. When all the puzzles for a theme are solved, a medal is added to the theme to indicate completion. Almost all puzzles have the option to receive a three-star rating.
