This game uses the same three-on-three style that debuted in Hitz 2002. The 2003 installment has bigger rinks, bigger crowds, a spirited referee and coaches. All 30 NHL teams are represented with motion capture animation, and you can create your own players with the Create Player option. The game's Season mode now allows trading, stat tracking, and player rewards.
Up to four players can compete in exhibition mode. Season mode puts you on a standard NHL schedule, but you can switch to a shorter season if you want. There are also a small number of hockey-related mini-games, such as Keep-away. Franchise mode is where you choose and name your team, name your players, and play against other teams to earn experience points. These points can be used to improve your players in categories such as tenacity, speed, passing and agility. After defeating all lower teams by one level, you can continue to fight a "boss team" for that region. Beating this team earns you new gear for your players, which also improves their stats.
