Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Oboro Muramasa?) is a side-scrolling action-RPG video game developed by Vanillaware and published by Marvelous Entertainment in Japan, Ignition Entertainment in North America, and Rising Star Games in Europe. The game was released on April 9, 2009 in Japan, September 8, 2009 in North America, and November 13, 2009 in Europe for the Wii.
A PlayStation Vita port titled Muramasa Rebirth was released in 2013 on March 28 in Japan, June 25 in North America, and October 16 in Europe. Not translated into French, it nevertheless benefits from a revised and corrected English translation, and slightly redesigned handling. This version offers, through paid downloadable content, four new tales based on Japanese folklore, as well as four new playable characters.
The game takes place during the Genroku era in Japan and offers a full 2D rendering of a very dreamlike style inspired by Japanese mythology. It offers the ability to control two characters (an amnesiac former ninja named Kisuke and a possessed young woman named Momohime). The choice of character changes the proposed adventure, everyone starts at both ends of the map to meet sometimes, but never face the same bosses. The fights take place in real time, in an aerial and dynamic style. Progression takes place in fixed arrays (featuring background animations) that the player moves through, much like in Odin Sphere or Wario Land: The Shake Dimension.
