Mortal Kombat (also called Mortal Kombat 9 or MK9) is a 2D fighting video game developed by NetherRealm Studios, the development studio formerly known as Midway Games Chicago. The game engine is an updated version of the Unreal Engine 3. The game was released on April 19, 2011 on PS3 and Xbox 360 and then on PlayStation Vita on May 3, 2012 in France (May 1 in North America).
