MLB 2005 continues Sony's baseball game series, this time with improved graphics, a fuller franchise mode, and more precise controls compared to its immediate predecessor, MLB 2004.
The PlayStation 2 version of the game also adds online play to the series for the first time, as players can compete in exhibition games or tournaments through the network adapter. Also new to the PS2 version is player editor support for the EyeToy camera, allowing players to import their own faces onto custom players.
The game also retains its familiar set of modes: Career, Exhibition, All-Star Game, Season, Playoffs, Spring Training, and Home Run Derby.
