Metro 2033 is a Post-Apocalyptic First-person Shooter and Survival Horror video game developed by 4A Games and published by THQ. It was released for PC and Xbox 360 on March 18, 2010, after approximately four years in development. This is the first game in the series.

The story is essentially based on the novel of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovski, Metro 2033. The player takes on the role of Artyom, one of the 40,000 inhabitants of the Moscow metro who survived a nuclear war which devastated Russia as well as most of of the planet twenty years earlier. Artyom must face the multiple dangers born of nuclear winter and fight his way through the tunnels of the Moscow metro, reconverted into the last bastion of humanity, to deliver a message of the utmost importance to an order devoted to the subway protection.
