Mass Effect is a series of action-RPG video games set in a science fiction universe and produced by BioWare.

The series is similar to a space opera: in 2148, humanity discovers a technology of extraterrestrial origin allowing it to conquer space. The player embodies Commander Shepard, whose mission is to save the galaxy from the Reapers: a mysterious race of very powerful machines seeking to annihilate all traces of evolved life in the galaxy.
