Mario Bros. (Mario Burazāzu?) is an arcade game developed and published by Nintendo in 1983. It was designed by Shigeru Miyamoto as the sequel to Donkey Kong, with which it was one of the first platform games ever created1.
The game features the plumber Mario - referred to as "Jumpman" previously in Donkey Kong - who must, with his brother Luigi, fight creatures appearing in the sewers of New York.
Shunned from arcades when it was released, Mario Bros. found success in 1986 with its re-release on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), selling more than 2.27 million copies worldwide on that console alone. The game has since been re-released on multiple platforms, including the Game Boy Advance, earning it weary reviews from the trade press, which nevertheless praises the effectiveness of the gameplay.
