Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is the fifth game in the Mario & Luigi series in which Luigi once cleaned Princess Peach's attic and accidentally knocked over a book containing the entire Paper Mario universe. This releases familiar Paper Mario characters and enemies into the 3D world. Bowser and Paper Bowser join forces in an attempt to take over the Mushroom Kingdom for good. Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario must team up to stop two Bowsers!
Although the game features turn-based battles, button controls can be pressed during battle to increase your attack, defense, and counter attack. This creates the feeling of a more interactive combat system compared to other games in the role-playing genre. The addition of Paper Mario brings new tactics to the usual Mario & Luigi formula by being able to copy each other for both defensive and offensive purposes. Trio moves are also new to the series. In battle, the trio's moves can be used to devastate your opponent. Out of combat, they allow your party to dig underground, grab distant objects, fly through holes, and more.
