Standard side-scrolling beat 'em up based on the Stallone movie of the same name. Sly must battle thugs and the elements as he tracks down suitcases of stolen cash dumped around the peaks of the Rockies. The combat follows the Final Fight standard, interrupted by rock climbing and running (or 3D snowboarding on the Sega CD) from avalanches.
Enemies are the standard brawling crooks, sometimes carrying guns and knives that the player can pick up. The game tends to follow a pattern of facing a natural hazard (climbing a cliff, jumping over gaps), then locking the screen for a segment of combat, nature again, battling at new, etc The combat moves available are limited, compared to other games of this type, and the possibility of hitting an enemy character is significantly less precise.
The plot is identical to the film, with levels based on or inspired by scenes from the film. Animated cutscenes advance the story on the cartridge systems, while brief clips from the film play between levels on the Sega CD.
