Kinect Joy Ride is one of the launch titles for Microsoft's Kinect device for the Xbox 360. It was billed as the "first hands-free racing game". True to the theme of many Kinect titles (no doubt inspired by Nintendo's Wii-centric titles), the game uses a player's Xbox avatar as the in-game character.
Kinect Joy Ride is controlled by players who hold their hands in front of them as if holding an invisible steering wheel and steer thus. The movement of the hips allows the character to drift, and an acceleration in speed can be achieved by thrusting the arms forward and backward. The game also features great jumps and stunts to perform during this flight. Stunts are largely performed with the player twisting their body while the kart is in the air.
The game features a variety of tracks and challenges, and there's unlockable content (mostly in the form of new tracks), a two-player offline mode, and online play for up to eight players.
