We are in the 15th century, the time of the Hundred Years' War between England and France. A young French girl from the village of Domremy trying to help her father with his daily chores discovers a mysterious object: a bracelet that magically attaches to his wrist. Soon the village is under attack and finding the first sword she can, she steps forward to meet the enemy, humanoid beasts. Taking the strength of the armband, hearing a mysterious voice and having her close friends for assistance, she manages to defeat them and embarks on a long quest to help her compatriots and defeat the forces of evil invading France.
Joan of Arc is a turn-based strategy RPG game of the Japanese variety, which fuses medieval history with the fantasy and madness of Japanese anime. It's a well-known story told through one tactical battle after another, while in-game dialogue along with hand-drawn cutscenes twist the story into different territories from the original.
It's a story of teenage friendship and devotion, remorseless war, evil magic, inevitable death, heartache letting go, and purifying hope. Joan joins the army and, with 14 other companions with different skills and personalities, marches to confront the troops of Henry VI of England. Along with her are other bracer-wielders, able to use them and transform into fearsome warriors capable of bringing down the evil at her heart. The game features a map to move through locations where story-advancing battles take place as well as free stages that add nothing more than fun and powerful items and challenging bosses.
