The computer versions of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom are conversions of the Atari arcade game based on the second film in the series. As an Indy, the player must complete several cycles of the following three types of levels:
Mine Level: Fight your way through a mine to free the children held captive. Use your whip to swing across chasms, climb ladders, roll along conveyor belts, and defend against attacks from Thuggee guards, bats, snakes, and the fireball-throwing ram Mola. Escape with the mine cart after freeing all the kids.
Mining Cart Level: Choose the right route through a network of tracks while riding in a mining cart. Avoid potholes, broken tracks and guards in carts and reach the end of the track safely.
Temple Level: Head to the altar and grab the Sankara Stone while Mola Ram, Bats, and Thuggee Guards are attacking you. Watch out for this lava.
With each cycle, the levels of the mine and the mining cart become more complex, the layout of the levels of the temple is always the same. After several cycles, there is a confrontation with Mola Ram on the rope bridge.
