Disregarding a background story, Funcom Dublin offers a mixture of Wipeout-style racing and driving at a very fast pace. Doing laps within the time limit is not enough, you also have to destroy a certain number of vehicles. Unlike the aforementioned title, you drive regular racing cars, if you count mounted weapons. These include mines, concussion missiles, smart bombs, heat-seeking missiles, lasers, and firewalls. Some are provided by defeating enemies, but power-ups, time bonuses, energy, armor, and a screen-swapping handicap can also be collected.
Five cars are available, with different stats and built-in weapons. The initially weak weapon is quickly replaced when you collect upgrade icons. To activate them, you must complete a bonus stage after which you can also save your game. To add to the length of the game, each of the twelve tracks, based on "city", "mountain" or "space" settings, has three variants: reverse, night or the combination of the two. Other features include a small diagram showing approaching cars to time your mines and pump electronic tracks to match the pace of the game.
