An evil demon named Varalys puts a curse on Princess Ann, turning her into three fairies. You control Sir Jim and go in search of the fairies, then kill Varalys. Only by defeating Varalys can the curse be lifted. Once the princess is restored, the kingdom will be saved.
Hydlide is an action game with strong role-playing elements. The player must explore vast wild areas, descend into dungeons and eliminate enemies along the way. The combat system is similar to that implemented in the Ys series: attacking enemies forces the player to "run into" them, at the same time preventing them from attacking the playable character from the sides and rear. The player can change between defensive and offensive positions by pressing a single button. Magic spells can also be used to eliminate enemies. The player character gets stronger and gains better stats as they advance through
