Spectrobes: Origins is a futuristic-themed 3D action role-playing game. After their defeat, the dark Krawls regroup under the leadership of the evil Krux and threaten the entire galaxy of Nanairo, destroying planets and civilizations in their advance. Fearing that the Krawl is exploiting Nanairos' portal system, Commander Grant orders these gateways to be defended.

In the game, the player takes control of Rallen or Jeena and their Spectrobes (creatures of light capable of countering the Krawl) who are sent to defend a backwater portal. Gameplay includes real-time battles alongside combat Spectrobes, chatting with NPCs, collecting minerals, and excavating fossils to earn additional Spectrobes. Seven different planets can be visited and the game can be played solo or cooperatively.
