In Gangs of London, the player takes on the role of a member of a criminal gang who wants to take over London. The basic gameplay is reminiscent of the GTA series, but instead of a free-roaming experience, the campaign consists of 70 short missions that are chosen via a menu screen. Each of them is accompanied by a story sequence in a comic style and offers various objectives: escort, infiltrate an enemy post, steal cars, kidnap people, race, defend your own position against the waves enemies and kill people.
The gameplay itself offers what you'd expect from a game like this: if the player is on foot, the game is basically a third-person shooter - sometimes it has a few other gang members with him and can give them some commands. The driving is action oriented in first or third person and the stealth segments are basic and only require you to perceive the guard patrols and kill them from behind. The police intervene if they see a crime but there is no search system like in similar games. At the start of the campaign, the player has a choice of five gangs with different abilities, e.g. Triads can roll faster.
