Mystic Quest Legend is a role-playing video game developed by Square Co., Ltd. for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the first in the Final Fantasy franchise to be released in Europe and Australia. Developed in Japan for the North American market where it is called Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, the name was changed for import to Europe where the Final Fantasy part of the name was removed. In Japan, it was released as Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest.
Rather different from the rest of the Final Fantasy series, it was sold as a "beginner's role-playing video game" with a 72-page strategy guide, like many role-playing games released in Europe. The game is very easy compared to other games in the series. It includes an automatic mode that allows the console to control the hero's companion, during combat, instead of the player.
Mystic Quest released in Europe on Game Boy is to be differentiated from Mystic Quest Legend. This one (released under the name Final Fantasy Adventure in North America) is called Seiken Densetsu in Japan and is the first episode of the Mana series.
