Fight Club is based on David Fincher's film adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name. Fed up with American consumerist culture, a fight club is founded as a new type of bare-knuckle combat therapy. The game focuses on combat and uses many characters and environments from the original story. You can create a new fighter or clone one of the generated characters. There are three general fighting styles to choose from: grappling, kung fu, or brawling. Moves range from basic punches to devastating moves with broken bones, torn clothes, and real-time facial deformation. After each successful fight, you earn Character Development Points (CDP) which can be used to upgrade or heal your character.
Along with the usual arcade, survival, and training modes, there's a story mode where you must progress from a beginner to becoming a key player in Project Mayhem in a storyline very loosely based on the original plot. The PS2 and Xbox versions also have online multiplayer.
The music in the game contains tracks from famous bands such as The Dust Brothers, Limp Bizkit, Korn, and Queens of the Stone Age.
