Project Zero in Europe and Australia, named Fatal Frame in North America is a series of survival horror type video games published by Tecmo, started in 2001. The first game in the series, Project Zero, was released in 2001 on PlayStation 2 and in 2002 on Xbox. Five main episodes were released, on PlayStation 2, Xbox, Wii or Wii U, as well as a spin-off on Nintendo 3DS.
Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly was released in 2003 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
Two twin sisters, Mio and Mayu, are dragged by a scarlet butterfly to a mysterious village lost in the forest. Mio must then unlock the secrets of a very cruel ancient ritual, while her sister gradually falls under the influence of an evil spirit: Sae. Helped by a young white-haired man imprisoned in a small building and a little girl driven mad by the death of her twin sister, Mio, wanting to keep a promise she once made to her eldest, will try to free Mayu. from Sae's grip.
A remake titled Project Zero 2: Wii Edition was released in Europe on June 29, 2012 for the Wii. The game still features Mio and Mayu roaming Mikanami Village, but their outfits have been changed to make them look more mature. The developers also added some ghosts and two alternate endings. The graphics have also been improved. Now, a Haunted House mode is available, containing 3 mini-games that can be played with two controllers. With this option, the second player can trigger the appearance of ghosts or make a noise from the first player's remote control. This new mode features Kureha, a young woman who can read people's souls and who lost her twin sister at birth.
