Double Dungeons is a single-player dungeon game in the strictest sense. One or two players can explore labyrinth-like pseudo-3D dungeons (without auto-map functionality, but with on-screen directions) and battle the monsters that inhabit them. The player(s) can choose to venture into one of the 20 dungeons available. The dungeons have the same textures, but their layout varies; the higher the number of the chosen dungeon, the more dangerous its enemies. Two-player mode features split-screen; both players start exploring the dungeon from different points.
The basic gameplay is very simple. Enemies spawn at specific points (they can also respawn) and must be defeated to continue. Combat is essentially turn-based, though turns follow very quickly, and enemies will attack even if the player does nothing. The attack is done simply by pressing a button; there are no other combat options.
