Generally following the plot of The Little Mermaid I and II, the game is a 2D collectathon with 3D graphics.
The game features over 30 minutes of video footage, 12 levels and 3 bonus mini-games. According to the source material, most levels take place underwater, allowing complete freedom of movement. (In the 2D plane, of course.) On land, movement is the standard type of running and jumping. In all levels there are coins and pearls to collect.
