Disney Planes is based on the animated movie of the same name released in 2013. This handheld version has similar gameplay to the PC/Wii (U) version, but is not identical. Players can experience the game world using six characters and six environments (four less for each compared to the other version), but it has full voice acting. Each character has different stats based on boost, power, speed, and technique. The game contains four game modes, but not the multiplayer part of the other version. The game modes included are: Ball, Challenge, Race and Story.
In balloon mode, the plane must pop all the balloons before the time runs out. The challenge asks the player to complete objectives such as cleaning dirt from buildings, dunking opponents using a water gun, or competing in a stunt show. Race mode involves completing courses in record time, usually by flying through rings. The story is based on the movie story with activities based on those of other game modes, including story sequences.
