You play as square-jawed detective Dick Tracy as he attempts to solve five different crimes of varying difficulty. This game is primarily a platform game with aerial driving to get to the different buildings looking for clues.
There are five different weapons in the game: a handgun, submachine gun, super punch, tear gas, and Tracy's single fists. There are also medical kits that can be found. Enemies can be armed or unarmed. If Tracy shoots an unarmed thug, he loses health.
The main objective of the game is to collect five clues; enough to catch the culprit. Clues are scattered throughout the city in various buildings, usually filled with Tracy-hating thugs. You start by looking at the mugshots of known criminals, going to where they are and interrogating them.
