The Activision Decathlon is a series of Olympic games similar to the Epyx series of games. Up to four players can compete in the ten different events of a real decathlon, either in sequence or individually. Included are the 100m long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m run, 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and run of 1500 meters.

Flat racing events involve simple flicks of the joystick, which must be balanced with precisely timed button presses to clear obstacles - hitting them or breaking stride results in loss of momentum and therefore time. For jumping and throwing events, you need to build momentum by wiggling, then press the button to throw or jump at what you think is the appropriate time.

For each event, points are earned based on your performance (this could be based on your running time, or how far you throw the javelin or discus, etc.), and the player with the most points at the end of the decathlon wins the gold medal.
