In Cosmic Chasm, the player's mission is to enter an underground labyrinth of an alien planet and destroy the planet's power structure in the central cavern. It can be played by one or two players in turn.
The labyrinth consists of several caverns connected by tunnels. The player sees an overview map before entering each cave. They have to choose the shortest way to the center. Each cave contains several drones that must be destroyed. Exits to caverns deeper in the system are blocked and must first be opened with a drill. In the middle of each cave is a slowly expanding trap, the player must avoid touching it at all costs. The deeper the player enters the system, the faster the drones move. After placing the bomb in the central cave, the player has 15 seconds to escape the maze, preferably using the path they entered.
The game uses three buttons: one for pushing, one for a shield to defend against drones, and one for shooting. Points are awarded for destroying the central structure, successfully escaping and breaking through the walls.
