The Wii U is a video game console marketed by Nintendo, succeeding the Wii. It was released on November 18, 2012 in North America, November 30, 2012 in Europe, and December 8, 2012 in Japan. The first eighth-generation video game console to be released, it competes with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The console was announced on June 7, 2011, during E3 2011. The Wii U was the first home console to offer a controller with an integrated touch screen, the Wii U GamePad. The two main new features of the console are provided by this one. On the one hand, the Wii U GamePad allows you to continue a game, thanks to its integrated screen, even when the television is not available, but this functionality is not present with all games. On the other hand, in addition to Wii controllers, the controller offers in multiplayer a gaming experience called "asymmetrical information", that is to say that the players do not necessarily have the same information on the GamePad compared to a traditional gamepad and TV screen. Finally, it is the first Nintendo console to be able to generate high definition graphics.
