The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is a third-generation 8-bit home video game console produced, published, and marketed by Nintendo. It is a remodeled export version of the company's Family Computer (FC) platform in Japan, commonly referred to as Famicom, which was released on July 15, 1983. The NES was released in a test market from New York. City on October 18, 1985, followed by Los Angeles as the second test market in February 1986, followed by Chicago and San Francisco, then the other 12 major US markets, followed by a full launch in North America and select European countries in September 1986, followed by Australia and other countries in Europe in 1987. Brazil only saw unlicensed clones until the official local release in 1993. The South Korean console release was was introduced as the Hyundai Comboy and distributed by Hyundai Electronics (now SK Hynix).
